Etsy shop video ideas for small sellers
Video is the easiest way to show what a product is really like — the size, the texture, how it moves, how it's made. You don't need a studio, just a phone, good light and a plan. Here are video ideas that work for small Etsy shops, split into what goes on your Etsy listings and what goes on social media to bring people to your shop.
Listing videos on Etsy
Etsy lets you add one short video to each listing. At the time of writing these are 5 to 15 seconds long and play without sound (Etsy removes the audio), so the product has to do all the talking. Keep listing videos about the item itself: no logos, no 'shop now' buttons — the buyer is already in your shop. Shoot in good daylight, keep the camera steady, and fill the frame with the product.
- The 360 turn: rotate the item slowly in your hand or on a turntable so buyers see every side.
- Scale: hold it, wear it or place it next to a familiar object so the size is obvious.
- In use: the mug being filled, the bag being packed, the print on a real wall.
- Detail: a slow close-up of stitching, texture, finish or engraving.
- Options: if it comes in colours or sizes, show them side by side in one smooth pan.
Social video ideas that bring people to your shop
On TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and Pinterest you're competing for attention, so lead with the most interesting moment and keep it moving. These formats work well for makers because they show something people can't see in a photo:
- Making-of: a sped-up clip of the item being made, from raw material to finished piece.
- Pack an order with me: wrapping, labelling and sealing a real order. Satisfying to watch, and it shows the care that goes into each one.
- Customer review spotlight: put a real review on screen over footage of the product it's about.
- New drop or restock: show the new pieces and say when they go live.
- Sale announcement: show your best sellers with the discount code clearly on screen.
- Meet the maker: 15 seconds of who you are and why you started. People buy from people.
- Personalisation reveal: a blank item, then the finished personalised version.
Open and close every video the same way
Consistency makes a small shop look established. A short logo reveal at the start of longer videos tells people whose video it is, and a branded ending tells them what to do next. Put your shop name on screen at the end — a 'Shop on Etsy' button with your logo is clearer than a spoken 'link in bio'. Your Etsy shop address is etsy.com/shop/ followed by your shop name, so it's easy to show on screen as well.
Use social proof honestly
Reviews and order notifications are powerful because they show real people buying from you. Keep them real: use genuine reviews (first name and initial is plenty — ask the customer if you're unsure), real order values and real items. UK consumer law bans fake or misleading reviews, and buyers can usually tell. A real five-star review on screen is far more convincing than any claim you make yourself.
Running a sale
You can create coupon codes and sales for your shop in Etsy's Shop Manager under the Marketing section. When you promote one in a video, keep the code short and easy to type, show it on screen for at least a few seconds, say it out loud, and include the end date so people don't miss out — then pin the code in the caption or comments too.
Common mistakes
- Dark, yellow-tinted footage: film near a window in daylight, not under indoor bulbs.
- A long intro: on social media, the product should be on screen within the first second or two.
- No call to action: tell viewers where to find the shop, every time.
- Text in the wrong place: keep captions and buttons out of the bottom and right-hand edges, where TikTok and Reels put their own buttons and captions.
- Posting once and giving up: a regular, simple routine (one pack-an-order clip a week, say) beats one perfect video.
